  1. Some good insights into the female role in a male dominated genre - the loss of her limbs also links to the idea of castration (loss of power) and the abandonment of physical attractiveness. Rather than an exploration of the female gaze this is more focused on a strong or positive representation. Research in more depth into what the fenale gaze is - Layla's blog can help you here. It is about the reimagining or reidentification of women against an unequal and dominant form - therefore it is about overcoming patriarchy - she does this violently not to be a man but to 'kill' mysigency or oppression. Also the phallic nature of the gun is relevant and the relationship with the father figure of Jeff Bridges.
